Kiri School
Kirundo Northern Province, Burundi
With the completion of this school (our 8th in Burundi), FacilitAid has now provided school buildings and facilities for nearly 5,000 Burundian children!
Kiri is a rural village located in the northernmost province of Burundi. It is situated on a hillside, where access and transportation of building materials has been difficult.
In 2011, we completed construction of a six classroom school, complete with toilets and administration offices. With no suitable public buildings in the area, school children who were previously learning under a nearby tree are now able to learn with the aid of desks, chairs and books.
Due to the village being situated on a hillside, this building project was one of our most ambitious and costly to date. We needed to 'step' the classrooms down the hillside and provide extra reinforcement to the classroom walls. What was prevoiusly unusable 'bush land' is now the site of Kiri School.
Along with building the school itself, our donors have helped us to raise the money to supply the school with desks, chairs, cupboards, uniforms, chalkboards and books!
